BOOK: The Chairperson's Toolbox (PDF)
I wrote this book as a resource for organizations that use committees to make decisions in the hopes that these tools can improve the quality of the decision-making process. All over the world, religious groups, nonprofit organizations, governments, and businesses have concluded that deciding things together is the right thing to do. But deciding things together – especially important things – brings challenges that most committee members are unprepared to deal with, including and especially the chairperson.
However, when a committee opts to include one of the tools described here, better decision-making happens. So I wanted to put them together in one place, so that other committee Chairs could refer to them, try them out immediately, find a few that work well, and thereby improve their decision-making processes.
Hence this book. Read it. Take what you like and run with it. Maybe even buy a copy for a friend.
